Cliff Robertson and Claire Bloom star in this adaptation of the short story Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes that tells of a mentally challenged man who miraculously becomes a genius after elective experimental neurosurgery. Charly Gordon is a grown man with the mind of a child, and although his efforts at education are fruitless, his night school teacher is moved by his determination. When she persuades a famous clinic to accept Charly for experimental neurosurgery, his knowledge grows by leaps and bounds, but his emotional growth is more difficult as he learns to cope with anger, rejection and love. His maturity is tested when he makes a frightening discovery about the limits of the operation's success. Produced and directed by Ralph Nelson.
